Memories twinkling like Juliet stars
Passive-aggressive this passer of hours
Never live forward by looking behind
The present invents a presence intertwined
As passengers we on the engines of time
Binging on images age-ed like wine
When Mr. Resister sees mystery's lines
Noticing scenery but never the signs (that say: )
This is the past
Old golden moments that we've erased
This is the past
All but the last ones have gone to waste
So "Live now and live free!"
And pretend not to see
That I'm half as fulfilled
As I used to be
I thirst for that verse long immersed in my brain
But I'm cursed to forever relive the refrain
Mistakes inescapable labeled throughout
This heart is incapable of sorting the drought
From the rain

This is partially inspired by a discussion which I had with ~andythefragile about his Untitled Taoist Poem which deals with the concept of living for the moment. This is a skill which I unfortunately do not possess, as much as I try. I'm forever a prisoner of my past.
Currently working on putting this to music. Recording should be available eventually.
The title is a reference to Salvador Dali's often misnamed masterpiece, The Persistence of Memory, and also Andy's poem.
